Mountain Paradise in Salzburg Province
A paradise in the Austrian state of Salzburg, Zell am See is located along the shores of the Zell Lake and surrounded by mountains like the 2000-metre high Schmittenhöhe. It is an important ski centre in the winter and a hiking and mountain-biking paradise during summer.
The area has been occupied since Roman times, but the village was founded around the year 740 by the order of Bishop Johannes I of Salzburg. The picturesque Old Town includes typical Alpine style buildings, as well as the oldest building of the region, St. Hippolyte's Church. The Austrian area of Zell am See offers a wide range of hotels, B&B’s, apartments, and guest houses.
The leisure centre has a covered pool, a sauna and steam bath, and special facilities for kids. Zell am See is a gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park, the biggest of the Alps and Austria’s oldest.
The nearby town of Kaprun is home to the 12th-century Kaprun Castle and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Salzburg Airport is 100 km away, while Sixt Innsbruck Airport is 150 km away. Zell am See is a town on the route of the Transalpin train.
Zell am See is a town on the route of the Transalpin train. We stayed for one night before our journey across the alps to Zurich. If you don't ski, there is little to do in town when it's cold outside besides a stroll along the beautiful lake and a visit to shops and restaurants. One 24-hour period was enough for us to see and do everything. The location of the train station made this a very easy place to visit.

Zell am See didn't have the quaint alps village feel at all, more like a regular large town, the high street was very disappointing.
The scenery of the lake and mountains was breath taking. Simply beautiful.
Snow for skiing in Feb 24 was absolutely awful given the low altitude! A lot of mud patches on the lower runs rendering them unusable. I would consider elsewhere for skiing option tbh. The ski resort was small and good for beginners/families primarily.
I felt very safe walking around the town.

We loved Zell am See.
We loved Zell am See. From the ease of getting here (the train from Salzburg is clean, quick and on time), to the scenery, beautiful town and great people. Everyone was pleasant to deal with, the facilities are excellent (although watch out for the supermarkets closing early compared to the UK) and the skiing is brilliant. Lift queues were generally short. However, as expected, everything is expensive!

What I like the most: Friendly staff, free use of washing machine and dryer at the lobby, underground garage, spacious living room and fully equipped kitchen, near the lake for a leisure walk and near to town and near to a lot of ski lifts and cable car to Schmittenhöhe
What I don like: nothing. Just be sure not to have a late check in so that you can seek for help before the reception close

Zell am See is truly beautiful.
Zell am See is truly beautiful. We had an amazing week of skiing with an excellent ski guide (Thomas Hager, https://www.alpin-guide.com/eng/), who added so much to our ski holiday experience. The town of Zell am See has an array of great restaurants, bars and shops. We travelled over the Christmas period and the place was festive with lots of Christmas spirit in the air! We would highly recommend a trip to Zell am See.

Zell am See is a proper small town with a lovely pedestrian zone and not just a ski resort. It is located on one side of a beautiful lake, surrounded by mountains. There's a good choice of places to eat and drink and I particularly like the Gin House and Steinerwirt. I get the sense it's quite a good place for a mixed group of those who ski/snowboard and those who don't, but it's particularly good for skiers as there are several lift options from and around the town, so wherever you stay you'll probably be close to one of the base lifts. Accommodation on the hill just above the town will have great views and, provided you leave your equipment at a base station or have a car, the walk is quite pleasant.
The location of this hotel was very good, really closed to the train station.
Me and my family used suite room which includes three bed rooms and two restrooms. The room condition was also very good, clean and all kitchen tools were equipped. So, we could cook during our stay.
Hotel staff was also kind and hospitable. When I asked questions about the attractions of Zell am see, they kindly answered me.
Breakfast buffet was good, too. We satisfied with this hotel a lot. I highly recommend this.
Cozy hotel , very very good location ( 3 min by walk from the lake ). Freeee private parking on spot( very important in Zell am See ).
Wonderful and tasty breakfast in the morning.
Free update to a bigger room with balcony ( thank you very much for that ).
Hans , the owner and his charming wife will make everything for you to feel home. After checking out we even received a small souvenir from Hotel 🏨.
Thank you very much for everything , for sure we shall come back.
Amazing! All the staff was extremely welcoming and nice; the pool and the area around are like in a 4-5 * hotel and not 3*, room was small but clean, breakfast awesome, plenty of choice. Restaurant a bit more expensive but OMG the fish we had was the best ever so it’s definitely worth it. Wellness - great. The hotel is very close to the lift - maybe 1km so walking distance. If I ever come back to Zell am See in the summer, it will be in this hotel!
The room was very cozy with a nice view of the old church. The space was perfectly adequate. I was a bit worried as a couple of reviewers had complained about train noise. However, I found that the trains were not very frequent, not that noisy and it lasted only for a moment. In sum, it was considerably less noisy than the average city hotel on a street. In any case, they supply ear plugs for all. Perfect location on the lake.
the hotel was very nice, and had a luxurious feel to it. the furnishing was great and seem newly renovated. The only thing we noticed though (granted we went in the summer) was no air conditioning, and the bathroom was not ventilated. I assume the hotel is meant to be used more during the winter as a ski lodge, so I won't complain too much. Other than that, it was a great stay.
Everything was just perfect! Nicole is was an amazing host, she helped us with everything. The place is at perfect location and very close to the ski lifts, bus stops and grocery stores. Just 25-30 minutes walking distance to the city centre of Zell am See.
Do not hesitate and book it, you will not regret.
Can't wait to come back next year!

They have a good restaurant and the breakfast was nice. the room was is very spacious and the classic style was nice. the balcony was the highlight of our stay looking into the lake which was nice. they offer a valet with a charge.
I loved the design of the furniture, it has different styles than other hotels/appatments. The staff were so friendly, especially Mr. Alex and Mis. Mara, They did breakfast for us and dinner and the service is fabulous!
The bar on the third floor has an amazing view the leak of Zell am See
the staff were super friendly and nice.

the apartment is super clean and specious and bed is comfortable.
breakfast was acceptable, more selection will be great.
Great place in the city center of Zell am See, the apartament was very spacious, beds were comfortable and there were all necessary fittings for a stay. It was nice and clean. Wellnes center both in the hotel and in the sister center were nice.
Close to lakefront. Husband and wife who run the hotel are excellent! They went out of their way to help us with a bag we left behind. They couldn’t have been nicer! They gave us a summer card that gave us a free boat ride and ski lift.
Jos what is very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to help us.
The apartments exceeded expectations and were very clean.
Jos gave us keys two ski lockers for our boots and skis which was a nice surprise!
The room was practical and spacious. The staff was really friendly and supportive. The hotel is nicely located in the centre of Zell am See with an abundance of nearby restaurants.
Everything was perfect.
