A good, historic property in a beautiful village. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We were made to feel very welcome. If Hawkshead was easier to get to by public transport, we'd be back within weeks.

Our "go to" place in the village has always been the Kings...
Our "go to" place in the village has always been the Kings Arms Pub. Sadly the pub is currently closed for renovations and will not be open again until 2025. Without this pub, the village feels like it has list its heart. Other pubs are available of course, but none have the feel of The Kings Arms. The village is otherwise a great centre for surrounding activities. It is very serene in the evenings when the bulk of visitors have gone home. It's a shame that the village economy does not seem able to support a good quality walking shop. The current outlets in the village really cater for the low to mid-range mass market.
For dining, the breakfasts at PoppiRed are exceptional. For our evening meals we used PoppiRed and The Red Lion. Both were very good.

Love Hawkshead.
Love Hawkshead. A super little village, with some sweet shops and various places to eat & drink. Great location to get to just about anywhere in the Lake District within reasonable travel time, and plenty of nearby walking.

The one downside was the parking.
The one downside was the parking. Many of the properties don’t have onsight parking which means parking on the main car park when you are in the village. The charges have recently been changed so that you have to pay overnight as well as during the day. There are no discounts for parking for a few days/ week so the £8.50 charge a day can add up if you are staying a few days. Nice restaurant in the village - Poppi Red would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food. Good base for visiting Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston.

A good place for lunch and an evening meal.
A good place for lunch and an evening meal. Interesting walks around the village and located v close to Tarn Howes and other really interesting places including those linked to Beatrix Potter.
Good food shops although the Co op is an essential and when it was unexpected closed caused some challenges for those at the camp site and cyclists passing through.

Hawkshead is a great place to stay in the Lakes although this visit only one of the four pubs had enough staff to offer evening meals. There are plenty of low level circular walks from the village and numerous places to stay to suit most pockets.
Special mention for food Is Poppi red which was excellent. The queens arms had nice food and friendly staff. The Sun in had live entertainment on Friday and Saturday night
The Kings Arms is a very well located traditional pub/hotel. It is presently going through a transitional phase with a new manager recently appointed.
Like many properties in the area it is struggling to recruit staff and this is having an impact on its ability to provide a food service and also on opening hours.
Breakfast was served to order and was excellent.
Its a hotel that has been in Hawkshead for many, many years and the present management are determined to restore it to its former glory
The house was absolutely beautiful and the room was lovely - very clean, with a comfy bed and big bathroom.
The host, Chris, was very welcoming and gave us excellent suggestions on what to do and where to go, which was really helpful. The breakfasts were all delicious and the views from the dining rooms were gorgeous.
The location is also great, very close to Hawkshead which was walkable and very central in the Lake District so that getting around was easy.
Cozy, charming inn with friendly staff and a great pub for dinner. They make sure to reserve a table for guests as the restaurant can fill up quickly. Very grateful that they have parking right outside as there is little to no street parking in Hawkshead. A wonderful Peter Rabbit gift shop full of all things Beatrix Potter is right around the corner, as is a lovely shop and cafe called HoneyPot. We all enjoyed exploring the town very much.
Our room was excellent and they had considered everything you would need. Very clean and we really appreciated them leaving the fan on as it was a hot few days. Breakfasts were great and service was quick. They were happy to go off piste with your requests too. We loved the live music and if we came back to Hawkshead we would definitely book this hotel again. The manager was also really accommodating and helpful.
Cosy Inn above a pub/restaurant and perfectly centered in Hawkshead. The reservations for dinner that come with the room actually worked out well since several of the restaurants in the village were either closed or remodeling. The Queens Head is a perfect staging point for hikes through the hills and lakes in the area.
Fabulous cottage with everything we needed for a stay in the Lake District. Great location for exploring the Windermere area and a fab local pub for evening meals. We had one very wet day but there were lots of board games and DVDs available to keep us entertained in the cosy cottage.
this is a beautiful property set in a wonderful location for touring the southern Lake District with many good walks within a few miles and some great restaurants and pubs close by. Chris is a fond of knowledge and was a great host at each delicious breakfast.
Belmount is in a fantastic location in the Lake District from which to explore. Wray Castle and Ambleside are walking distance from hiking trails that cross the rear of the property. This is an excellent value.

Such a hidden gem. Completely exceeded our expectations. A really comfortable and well appointed room, lovely food, friendly staff and dog friendly! And the location is perfect.
Fabulous location and a truly superb breakfast with quality sausages and bacon. Super king-size bed very comfortable. Wonderfully dog friendly and the host was excellent.
Location is excellent in Hawkshead, comfortable bed, staff were very helpful and friendly, nice outside seating area, and the breakfast (included) was great.
