We collected the keys from the restaurant/bar, was fine but when the bar is busy (like on our bank holiday weekend), we needed to wait in a queue, not a problem, really. We were escorted to the apartment which was helpful. The snugs (apartments) were very unusual in their design, a bit tight (hence the name, snug) but absolutely fabulous, well thought out. We stayed with fully grown teenagers who found the bunk beds to be lovely and big singles. Would definitely stay again.

Kendal is sometimes an overlooked gem of a town, with many interesting places to visit with historic interest & a hive of culture. We especially enjoyed the ease of getting to the Brewery Arts Centre for a concert & all on offer there. Being into 'real ale', the Factory, was a valuable find, near to the river. (Nice pizza on a Friday evening too!) A haven for dog owners! We visited the Art Gallery, had coffee/tea there & were spoiled for choice at the cakes for sale. Friendly staff there & an very interesting selection of modern art, photography & traditional art. Recommend a walk up to the castle for a wonderful vista of the area. Kendal is a lovely market town gateway to the Lakes.
Kendal is a lovely market town gateway to the Lakes. Plenty individual shops. Fab cafes, coffee shops and pubs. Lovely walks to the river, castle ruins and hills, super transport links to Lake Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside and Grasmere. Lots of walking accessible by good public transport, avoids taking the car and trying to find somewhere to park. She supplied an additional small heater as the weather during my stay was bitterly cold and the room, although small, took a long time to warm up (I suspect some heat was lost via the large single glazed window). The useful information about Kendal that Yvonne supplied was very thoughtful. Unfortunately the activity that brought me to the area for the weekend was disrupted by snow so I ended up spending far more time in my room than I’d anticipated.
